Is it possible to win at poker on the internet ?What’s your experience about online poker and sports betting?
Do you think it’s safe ? What is the probability of being victim of dangerous websites ( for example, a site which cheats to make players lose their money…)
How much can we really win ?
Which site is the most honest and easiest to get money?
What is your advice?
Is it possible to win?
Absolutely. Of course online poker, just like casino poker, requires you to be a good card player to be a consistent winner.
My experience?
I’ve been playing online poker since 2003. I’ve played real money at three different web sites, and play money at several more. I have never had any problems pulling money off the sites.
Is it safe?
I believe it is. If you are playing on a major site it is completely safe.
Dangerous web sites?
Play the major ones (I’ve added a link for you) and you’ll be fine. Dishonest sites that steal your money don’t last too long. Anyone that claims that some websites manipulate the cards to create unusual situations or bad beats or control the outcome of the game is retarded. Being realistic there is no logical reason for any legitimate site to do this. Also it would only take one programmer to blow the whistle and everyone would find out what was going on and stop using the site. The only reason you see more unusual situations in online play is because you see 3-5 times more hands playing online than you would in a casino.
How much can you win?
It depends how good you are. I just saw Mike Matusow win $20,000 in just a few minutes the other day. I have a friend who wins several thousand dollars a month playing online. He even won a trip to the WSOP last year, a prize worth $13,000. So there is really no upper limit on what you can make. It depends on the stakes you play, whether you play in cash games or tournaments, and how good you are.
Most honest?
I’ve had no problems with Full Tilt or Poker Stars, and the latter is by far my favorite. Again, take a look at the link.
You can deposit money with epassporte. Go to any of the sites you want to try and read their recommendations for American players. It is a little more difficult to buy in and cash out right now thanks to the law change that Bill Frist rammed down our throats. But there is nothing illegal about the act of playing poker online.
Advice?
I suggest you try two or three sites and play with play money. See what you like. Do you like the graphics and sound of one more than the others? Do you like the features? Do you like the speed of the play and the availability of games?
When you have settled on a site you really like, buy in for some real money and start playing. Start with small stakes, smaller than you think you should and see how it goes. If you are a consistent winner (at least three sessions back to back) then give yourself a ‘promotion’ and play at the next level up. If you start losing go back to the lower level and try again.
You will want to play cash games, sit and go, and tournaments. Try all three and see which you like the best. Cash games allow you to make consistent money. You can afford to play pretty tight and play premium hands. The blinds never change so you don’t have to gamble. Grind out some good money that way.
Sit and go offer tournament poker either on a single table or multi table format. I’ve seen sit and go tournaments with up to 180 players. This is a pretty cool concept because for a buy in of say $20 you can win $1000. A nice return. Of course it is not easy to beat 180 players. You just have to work at it. You may waste a lot of money in buy ins before you start cashing. Most sites offer some play money sit n gos.
Tournaments offer the chance to win massive prizes for a relatively small investment. Of course you will often have to beat several hundred players to make the money. This is never easy to do. But the rewards are often very big. Most sites offer major tournaments weekly that pay out more than $100,000.
So if you are interested in poker give it a shot. I’ve been playing since 2003, and I certainly enjoy it. There is a lot to learn, but it is worth the effort.
Good Luck!
